What is chip tuning?
The majority of modern engines are operated by a computer, better known as ECU (Engine Control Unit). This electronic calculating unit sets the pre-ignition and the quantity of petrol which will be injected, depending on a number of parameters like the surrounding temperature, the density of the sucked up air, the number of revolutions of the engine etc. All these data are saved in one or more memories, called Eprom or chip. Chip tuning means that the chip with the original data is replaced by another one with optimised data, in order to increase the capacity and the torque and to obtain a more agreeable and smoother motoring performance - in case of turbo engines the performance increases between 20 and 40% and goes hand in hand with a reduction in fuel consumption.

Why has this not to be done by the car manufacturer?
The programme for your engine is stored on your chip (EPROM) and cannot be changed. As most car types are developed for the world market, the manufacturer has the difficult task to find a compromise solution combining different parameters like fuel quality, different anti-pollution laws, overrun of service intervals, insurance conditions.

How is it exactly done?
First of all the ECU is taken out of the vehicle. Now the original chip is soldered out and the tuning chip is re-soldered. The solder works should only be done by a persons with solder experience.

How do we develop a tuning chip?
All our tuning chips are developed on a modern dynamometer. In the following test phase all possible physic influences are simulated.
Only this procedure allows us to program the tuning chips for the different engines and appropriate to your wishes and your vehicle. Trust the long experience of INMOTION Tuning in the developing and manufacturing of tuning chips for modern vehicles.
